Many board games are based on historical events so perhaps it is surprising how few have dealt with history’s closest fellow discipline, archaeology.
Based closely on Queen Games’ popular Jenseits von Theben, Beyond Thebes is a game in which players race round Europe visiting archaeological sites in order to find the most valuable artefacts and exhibit them.
The game focuses on five of the greatest civilisations: the Greeks, the Cretans, the Egyptians, the Palestinians and the Macedonians. Players must excavate historical sites in the territories of these civilisations.
During the game, players mount exhibitions and those who put together the most exhibitions with the highest value artefacts will win the game.
