There is something about this game that I absolutely love. It’s probably a combination of things: I love the well made components. I like the way the game pieces feel “substantial” and high-quality, and the decision-making and strategic …
Medieval Japan is the setting for this game of political subtlety and board domination
This intriguing board game is set in medieval Japan. Players use hexagonal tiles to surround cities, which have one to three different figures: rice paddies, buddhas, or high hats. The tiles represent influence on particular facets of the cities, and the highest influence on a figure when the city is surrounded takes that figure.
Each player has an identical force of warriors, priests, and peasants to use to gain control of the important power figures of Old Japan. The players deploy their forces to the spaces around the power figures. When a figure is surrounded, it is captured by the player with the strongest sympathetic force. To win, a player must gain dominance with one of the powers while getting better support from the other powers than the other players.
The object of the game is to have more than anyone else in one category – and then have the most remaining figures.
